New England Institute of Technology (NEIT) conducted an Aluminum Welding training program for Blount Boats in April, 2013. Blount and NEIT worked together to select the seminar trainees by conducting joint interviews. Blount Boats offered all seven successful completers of the training program an entry-level, full-time employment opportunity in welding.
New England Tech conducted this 180-hour training specialized program utilizing training funds from the Shipbuilding/Marine Trades and Advanced Manufacturing Institute (SAMI) and the Governors Workforce Board Innovative Partnership grants. The cost of providing this training is valued at $14,000, and was delivered at no cost to Blount Boats. New England Institute of Technology provided the instructor and educational materials for the training program. Blount Boats provided the training facility, welding equipment and specific aluminum metals for the training facilities at their Warren, RI manufacturing facility.
